As if driving cross-country isn’t a big enough experience, we’ve also had several once in a lifetime moments along the way. So far the best has been feeding the deer at Nana’s house. There were several times we just went outside and they came walking up to the porch to get their snack. Xander absolutely LOVED it! He got the biggest kick out of throwing things for them to eat-unfortunately he doesn’t have the arm strength to actually get a piece of bread or whatever close enough for the skittish ones to be able to enjoy.
Feeding the deer with Nana
There were a few deer that would reach as far as they could to get the food right out of your hands. Xander really though those were cool. They were really fun to take pictures of too! Anyways, we would go out and feed the deer (and the squirrel that only had one eye!) a few times a day at Nana’s and the rest of the time we just kept X busy and out of things he shouldn’t be in!
Doing a little dancing outside :)
I also FINALLY remembered that I brought my camera along for this trip so we were able to get some really good photos. I really like the one of us dancing above. We actually had to spin a few times just to avoid a melt down. My mommy friends weren’t kidding when they said that canines suck! This is the worst teething experience we’ve had as far as not feeling good has gone. He’s had a fever for the majority of the last week and just hasn’t been himself. For example, my good eater is barely eating anything. This morning he did eat TWO servings of oatmeal, so I’m hoping he’s starting to get back to his normal self, at least as far as his appetite is concerned.
My little cuddle bug. :)
However, I’m perfectly fine if the cuddles he’s been giving out stick around after the teeth come through. I think he’s been more loving the last week than ever before in his short 18 months! He’s been coming up and wanting to be held and cuddled and Paul and I are both loving it! He didn’t even cuddle this much when we were still nursing!
Still no baby bump pictures, they’re all on the computer (I didn’t put them on my phone like the ones above!) but I’ll eventually get them on here!
Thanks for reading!
We’re on the road again today, going to the memorial for Paul’s grandma in Del Rio. We’ve enjoyed our time in Killeen, with the exception of a sick little boy. At first I thought he was getting a cold but I think it’s just a combination of teething and allergies. Last night he woke up in the middle of the night and I ended up putting him in bed with us after I got him back to sleep. This morning we realized he had a tooth come through over night and there’s another that’s extremely close to making its grand debut.
Despite teething and having a rough life (for an 18 month old!) he’s having a good time too. He LOVES his Auntie Hunter and will randomly leave my lap to go get in hers! (Talk about breaking my heart! Lol, I’m not quite ready for there to be other girls in his life if you can’t tell!) Regardless if I’m ready for not, I’m pretty sure he’d be okay with her as a babysitter–which all my friends know we don’t leave him often at all, so me saying that is a big deal. He really does love his youngest auntie, and I’m pretty sure the feeling is mutual after the talk Hunter and I had this morning when I took her to school! He’s also been getting pretty spoiled by his Memaw and Pawpaw–they took him to Chuck E Cheese and got him a ton of toys that he’s enjoyed playing with between cuddles!
Yesterday I stripped him down to his diaper and let him paint outside in the sun. It was a total mess, but it cleaned easily and he was able to quit fussing for about an hour while he painted a masterpiece that only a parent could love.
I wish I would have gotten an “after” photo because he was a mess! We just put him in the bathtub and scrubbed him down. Note to my fellow moms: the cheap tempura paint does not wash off as easily as the Crayola Washable Finger-paint that I usually use–but there are a ton more colors and it was about half the price at Hobby Lobby!
I know I skipped Tuesday Timeout again–I’ll be sure to do it next week and include a belly picture from this week too! This traveling stuff has all my days mixed up, but the teething baby has made it even worse! Prayers that he feels better SOOON! Paul and I both need a couple good nights of sleep!
We have spent the last couple of days in San Angelo visiting Paul’s family and having an all out blast. After Xander went to bed last night we stayed up late playing Catch Phrase (both Paul and my first time!) And then today we’ve pretty much spent all day with family.
X and cousin Slayton playing T-Rex.
Tonight a bunch of the family came over for dinner and Xander got to play with his cousins. There were two older boys (4 and 6) that he absolutely LOVED. After his bath tonight I brought him back down to at the very least say goodnight to everyone and he ended up playing with the boys for an hour! They played with Slayton’s new T-Rex toy, and then played a weird combination of chase and train. Xander was so lovey and kept giving the boys hugs that we’re more like full on tackles but luckily they are 100% boys and took it like champs!
Playing “train chase” for lack of a better name. X laughed the entire time!
Im not sure who had the better time, Xander playing with the big kids, or me watching him interact with other kids and getting to listen to him laugh the entire time. He seriously had the absolute best time! And he’s sleeping HARD right now, which is really nice
One of the tackle hugs.
Tomorrow we’re heading to Killeen and I’m a little bummed my mom won’t be there but I’m looking forward to spending time with Hunter and my grandparents for a few days and then after the memorial for Paul’s grandma spending a solid two days with my mom. Tuesday Timeout will probably be short and sweet tomorrow.
Only nine more to go!
Xander did AMAZING in the car Thursday! We woke up and left Phoenix at 3 AM. The idea was that he and I could go back to sleep and Paul could drive for a while in peace. Well, that did NOT happen. Xander stayed awake until after 5, and then he finally fell asleep for a little over 2 hours. I fell asleep shortly after him.
Swinging with Allie at the park in El Paso.
We woke up about an hour outside of El Paso where we met our friend Denise for lunch at this place called Chico’s Tacos. She didn’t think I would like it but knew that Paul would. Needless to say I LOVED it, just wish I would have picked up some Tums for the heartburn that baby brother made sure I had afterwards.
We’ve spent two great days in New Mexico with Paul’s brother Duane and his sweet girlfriend Brittany. We’ve been pretty lazy–which I’m super thankful for because I’ve been having Braxton Hicks contractions like crazy plus random round ligament pains. Being lazy has meant I can go and lay on the couch when it gets bad. (Which has been a lot more often than I’ve wanted!)
Tomorrow we made the 5 hour drive to visit Paul’s family in San Angelo. No one there has met Xander so I’no hoping it isn’t too much for him. (Paul’s family is pretty big!!) And he’s definitely getting some teeth in right now so that makes this even more fun! It is nice to know that after tomorrow we’ll be 1/3 of the way finished with the driving days! The busy bags have been great, although I haven’t used them one at a time–and I totally broke one out today because we were in total meltdown mode thanks to the teething and just not napping well in general. (Hoping he does better tomorrow in the car!!)
Wish us luck tomorrow! We’ll probably need it! Haha!
Since both nap times were spent with me doing other things yesterday (getting ready to meet Paul’s sister for lunch and folding clothes!) I didn’t ever get around to blogging. So no Tuesday Timeout, but I’ll post a belly bump picture today.
Xander and his Auntie Ivy
Right now we’re in Phoenix and the trip here went really well. We only had one meltdown and it was at nap time. Other than that he was a little angel and has been our entire time here with minor exceptions. He has absolutely loved playing with Grandma and Grandpa and all morning he’s been running around after his Aunt Ivy saying “I”. Not to mention all the dogs and cats around that he’s been having a blast chasing after. Xander is definitely a little animal lover! Luckily the animals are pretty fond of our crazy toddler too! We’ve only had one issue with one of the cats not feeling very cuddly, and with as “loving” as X has been I think the record is pretty good.
Helping Grandma brush the dogs and cats.
In other news, Paul has bought a roadbike since we got here, and has arranged so that it will get shipped to us once we get to Key West. He’s already gone on a few short rides and is going on a long ride this afternoon with his dad. I love that he’s so excited about something! Xander thinks the bike is pretty cool too!
Tomorrow we head to New Mexico to see Paul’s brother for a couple of days. We’re stopping in El Paso to visit with a friend for lunch along the way and I’m excited to see her! While Paul was deployed last year we had a standing lunch date on Fridays and I’ve missed her!
24 weeks down, just about 16 to go.
