If you follow us on Instagram (@ourmijos is our username!) you know we’re on a road trip to D.C. for a marathon Super Dad is running. So far we’ve had overnight pitstops in Orlando, where we went to Downtown Disney, and Fayetteville, NC, where I got to spend time catching up with one of my best friends from college!
Today we’re driving the last few hours to Washington D.C. and thanks to a double Todzilla moment we ended up making an unexpected stop at the Petersburg National Battlefield. If you’re a history lover like my silly husband (and Granddad!) you’ll appreciate this little tidbit of knowledge I got from the National Park Service:
“Nine and a half months, 70,000 casualties, the suffering of civilians, thousands of U. S. Colored Troops fighting for the freedo m of their race, and the decline of Gen. Robert E. Lee’s Army of No. Virginia all describe the Siege of Petersburg. It was here Gen. Ulysses S. Grant cut off all of Petersburg’s supply lines ensuring the fall of Richmond on April 3, 1865. Six days later, Lee surrendered.”
Anyway, we didn’t try to get a ranger or anything, just let the Todzillas stretch their legs for about a mile’s worth of walking and now they’re back to happily watching Madagascar while we finish the last two hours of driving.
